DID YOU KNOW?

Mansfield is a significant location for paleontological discoveries, most notably due to a groundbreaking 2021 find by local fossil hunters. A loose slab of rock, found in the Broken River region, contains trackways dating back 355 to 365 million years ago. These tracks are significant because they rewrote evolutionary history. They represent the oldest known reptile footprints in the world, pushing back the origins of reptiles by about 35 to 40 million years.

If you would like to know more about this find and others or have a fossil that you would like our experts to look at, join us in this exciting event - a precursor to the museum exhibition. Ticket price includes refreshments.
